This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are located in the heart of Wynwood. We are a Title I school in a large urban area with 533 students. Ninety-eight percent of students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school serves students from eight different homeless shelters and drug-rehab facilities. Thirty-nine percent of our students are English Language Learners. Most of our students live in apartments, and do not have access to green areas or outdoor space. Unfortunately, their economic situations do not always allow them the opportunities afforded to other students.

My Project

Having comfortable and flexible seating would be ideal to help my students as they engage in learning opportunities. Some of my students experience difficulties in their home environment. Though many of them deal with certain issues, they still desire to learn. With all of the different personalities and learning styles in my classroom it is hard to keep everyone focused at once. To ensure that everyone's needs are being met we do a lot of differentiated instruction which involves centers all over the classroom.The students are constantly on the move always dragging chairs with the from center to center. Sometimes it feels like they spend more time trying to get comfortable and arranging their bodies at a center then doing the actual work assigned at that area.

I want to make our classroom more inviting and I believe these comfy beanbags will help them be more relaxed and fidget less.

I would like all of my students to experience learning in an enjoyable environment. With your help, we truly believe this can be done.
