My students need to see history. These DVDs will allow us to continue to bring the "boring" soap opera of their history books to life, right before their very eyes!

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
We are working to bring history to life. The old saying about "those who do not learn from the past" is so very true. DVDs will help us do just that. They are a very media driven generation. If we can work to combine our text books, with portions of these DVDs we can help bring the past to life.
We are a large urban high school.
Our free and reduced lunch population makes up more than 87% of our school. And far too many of my kids are struggling to read at an elementary school level. Many of our kids are hungry and homeless. Some are struggling to figure out how they fit in this world. Others are just waiting for what life will throw at them next.
My Project
We are requesting DVDs from the nearly the entire last century. They will help us to bring the human story to life, before their very eyes. Aside from the action, the human component - the emotions, will help our kids to relate to the stories of the past. It also helps them to see that our story - the history we are making RIGHT NOW will also need to be told.
If we can help our students empathize with the figures of the past, we can help them to see that their future, as well as their past, will become the stuff of historical discussions for the generations to come.
They are indeed part of a bigger picture. These images will help us to help them discover that.
