Holidays Around the World: As Told by the Gingerbread Man

My Students

Each day I have the privilege to work with 23 very different students. My students come from different backgrounds, perform at different levels both academically and socially, and each child has their own individual needs. One thing all of my students have in common is their love for reading!

Each day we set aside a block to read a story together.

Reading a book gives my students commonality. Stories help my kiddos to bond each day. We read various stories throughout the year. Stories my kids can relate to, stories that teach them something new, and stories that make their world just a little bit bigger.

My Project

My classroom is a melting pot. I have students multiple backgrounds. I teach my students it is important to celebrate each students' individuality, which includes their culture.

I plan to teach my students about the holidays, including their own, that are celebrated throughout the world!

To help make this fun unit more applicable to my 1st graders, I chose books that feature a character they all know: The Gingerbread Man!

Reading these books to my students will help them to learn more about each other, and continue to celebrate their differences and see that it is our differences that truly make us unique.
