Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
There is no better why to say I love or appreciate you than a personalized gift made from the heart. The holiday craft fair will provide my students to an opportunity to foster and explore their creativity in order to make a special gift for their parents or friends.
My students are children who are dedicated to their education.
Their commitment is demonstrated by their willingness to attend school every Saturday, focusing their studies on reinforcing and enhancing their math and reading skills. Saturday school has an extended curriculum for grades 1 to 8 and a tutoring program for high school students in 9th - 12th grade. There isn't an art component to the Saturday school, so I want to reward them with a holiday treat. They are mostly students who receive Free and Reduced Meals and don't have the means to purchase gifts for the holidays.
My Project
Below you will find a description and supplies need for 3 of the arts-and-crafts:
"Mini masterpieces" Decorate art trading cards so they keep, trade or give it as a gift if they want. (I was thinking maybe there could be a trading post where they can go just to trade things they've made) Materials: trading cards, paint, markers, and pens or pencils.
"Collage Degree" Get it? Laugh out loud... Simple collage activity using magazine cutouts. This could be like a mini version of a vision board. Materials: Old magazines, card stock, scissors, glue, paint brush.
"Because I FELT like it" Make holiday magnets and broaches using felt. And they can either choose to glue magnets or a pin to the back. Materials: Felt, Scissors, glue guns, magnets, pins.
The Saturday School motto is "I believe in me!" I believe art can instill confidence, because it teaches children to be creative and innovative.
Because it encourages and values creative abilities, art provides a safe venue in which to express ideas. The skills of innovation and originality help children learn to form mental images to solve problems. Thus, art helps a child improve valuable life and career skills that carry over to all of their work all of their work and studies.
