This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a high-poverty area in Virginia; my school is small, with about 350 children enrolled. The children in my building are great kids; they thrive off positive motivation and are very intuitive when focused. We were named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006.
Currently, I am a Second grade teacher; I love teaching Second grade simply because kids are fun to teach at this level.
They are enthusiastic, happy to be at school, work together well, and they are the perfect mixture of independence and neediness in behavior and attitude!
They make me WANT to come to work :-)
My Project
I have a C.O.W. (Computer on Wheels) that has everything a teacher could want on it, technology-wise: laptop, document camera, and projector. I also have an awesome computer lab in my room equipped with five desktops. Unfortunately, the speakers on my C.O.W. blew out which makes showing an educational video, playing Education City on SmartBoard, or conducting inside recess using GoNoodle difficult.
I am asking for three sets of speakers so that my C.O.W.
and computer lab can run more efficiently without issue.
I realize the importance of exposing my children to technology and differentiated instruction and I incorporate it in basically ALL of my teachings.
I do this by setting up learning stations and showing interactive videos that complement my lessons. When the speakers blew, it kind of stopped the momentum I have created. Having new, fully-functioning speakers will get it back on track!
