Students need to move, and sitting still is incredibly hard for most of them. Every day my students participate in a reading block where they can participate in independent reading and a teacher lead small group. These Hokki stools would help my students better concentrate during this time!
My classroom consists of 23 students with the need to move!
My students enjoy encouraging one another and helping each other learn. I encourage my students to choose the best learning environment for them on a daily basis. My students are creative and always ready to learn.
My school is a Title 1, magnet school in an urban environment. Our school focuses on the importance and necessity of communication, the skills it takes, as well as the tools we used in the past and today. I think our school community pairs well with our classroom environment when it comes to advocating for ourselves. My students communicate to me their best learning space, allowing me to really understand their best learning style and help them to become the best learners they can be.
My Project
According to the vendor's website, "Hokki stools are the perfect furniture solution for busy students in a classroom. The ergonomic stool lets students keep moving."
I envision my students using these Hokki stools everyday during reading, writing, and math. By using these stools at our small-group area, we will be more focused and safe sitting on these stools. The stools that we currently use in this classroom are not sturdy and have broken while students are sitting on them because your moving even when you think your sitting still!
These stools would improve our learning environment because the Hokki stool's base allows for movement in all directions, which is critical to student development.
Physical movement both increases well-being and encourages the physical and intellectual maturing process. In addition, the Hokki stools would be an increase in safety as well. With the larger bottom to balance the movement, these stools are stable and durable.
