Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children are built to be on the move at all times, yet in schools we require them to sit for extended periods. Not only do my students need to sit and read, but they struggle doing it. This leads to my students becoming fidgety and needing to move. Enter the Hokki stool!

My students are strong willed and filled with personality.

They are bursting with curiosity and the will to become stronger individuals everyday. They are extremely creative and love trying new things, even if it might not work. In our room, we learn from our mistakes and work to improve ourselves inside and outside of the classroom. I work with students in kindergarten through fifth grade. My students attend a high poverty school with Title I services that I provide. English language learners make up over half of our student population. What our school lacks in resources, we make up for in determination to succeed.

My Project

The reason why I am requesting three Hokki stools is because I have seen them work. I have seen students who bounce around in their desk all day finally be able to stay in one spot. I have seen students sooth themselves by rocking gently back and forth without disturbing anyone around them. I as the teacher love sitting on them, because I even feel more relaxed and focused when I do so as an adult. I am requesting these stools to improve my students' focus in my classroom. I see my students for only a fraction of their school day and in that time I serve as an intervention for them. I want them to be as focused and ready to learn as they can be.

The donation of these stools will improve my classroom by allowing the students to move without distracting others.

Since the stools have a convex base, the students can move in all directions on a stable, durable seat.
