Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from many neighborhoods in New York City, and from many backgrounds. They are African-American, West Indian, West African, Latino, Central American, Asian, and Eastern European, among other nationalities and cultures. They are also a diverse group in terms of learning issues and gender identity.

My students are striving for a better future through their education.

Most will be the first person in the family to attend college. My students can be positively transformed each day with highly engaging educational experiences.

My Project

One area my students struggle the most with is using technology effectively as a tool in their learning. We are trying all the time to create more engaging in-classroom opportunities, but many of them require access to technology in the classroom. My students generally cannot afford to bring their own devices, and access to technology in our school is quite limited and in high demand.

In my classroom, we would like to have our own laptop cart with 30 Chromebooks so that much of the student-centered work will include the use of technology as a tool for research and presentation.

The addition of technology would give my students a much needed boost that can support their ability to research, create, and present on a wide array of topics. Students who are confident in these abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education and the workplace.
