History In The 21st Century

My students need a DLP projector and a projector cart in order to improve their learning experience in History. Learning with access to both the internet and presentation tools will better prepare my high school students for college as well as make the content more engaging.

I am a 10th grade Global Studies teacher at a high school that serves students from high-need communities all over New York City. My student population consists of students that are newly immigrants and many students that have IEP’s. More than half of the students are reading well below their grade level.

Working in an inner city schools with constant budget cuts it is always the students that need the most support that loose out. This year it is even harder to get the supplies I need to support my students or even to insure that the classroom is a positive learning environment. With having many students who are below level, I find that the high school textbooks are too hard for them. Many cases students get discouraged when they are faced with hard level texts that they do not connect to. Many students these days are visual or auditor learners and have have difficulty learning materials from lectures and readings.

A LCD projector will allow me to make my lectures about the past more interactive and better serve the different learning styles of my students. It will also allow my students to see how learning about the past can be interesting. Also I can use lectures to work on skills such as note taking and summarizing that can prepare them when they are in college. Utilizing a projector can also enable me to available for one on one help for students as it will free me from being at the front of the room. This also will result in a more encouraging learning environment.
