History in Action

My students need three Acer Chrome book laptops to complete research and to complete activities that can help them fully become immersed in history.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Amsterdam's classroom raised $749

My Students

Students are always doing hands-on activities in class. I want my students to be fully immersed in historical research. However, with the lack of technological resources, it becomes a problem. "History does not rhyme, it repeats" -Mark Twain I want my students to experience this by doing research.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood in which there are a lot of different housing developments.

In the school 65%+ of students are receiving free school lunches and some students live in shelters. Most students have disabilities and have to engage in learning in different ways and these laptops will open up a different learning experience for them. Even though they face these challenges, the students are eager to learn! My school is very small and even though we don't have the resources, we try our best to help our students understand and use technology.

My Project

Imagine a classroom where students are learning history but they can only see black and white pictures or they can't research or find other topics related to a topic they are learning. History is something that must be taught through the use of technology. The amount of historical websites that are out there in which students can see images in colors, listen to countless audio clips and see different video clips is important for the learning of history. Since many students don't have access to computers, they are not being exposed to the amount of material out there. My students need three Acer Chrome book laptops to complete research and to complete activities that can help them fully become immersed in history. I want my students to do presentations and to write out papers, but with the limited amount of supplies, they are not exposed to these things. We are approaching an age where computers will soon take over and I want my students to be ready for that. I want them to be able to research and teach their classmates about a topic. The spotlight should be on them and they should be able to discover history.

These donations will improve my classroom tremendously!

Students will be able to not only research but become tech savvy. My classroom will become even more hands-on than it already is and students can see up close for themselves different historical content. My students will now be able to learn how to do certain things online and to be able to see that history is not limited but there are hundreds of different ways they can learn more about a topic.
