Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help me fund a Community Action Project for 170 13/14 14-year-olds at a Title I school. In this Spring term, I anticipate engaging my students in a Civic Action Project that is influenced by a service learning based project model (in an Ethnic Studies Pedagogical Lens). I want my students to use the historical background they have learned in order to critically think about ways they can contribute to their community.

I will attempt this project with all my students so that they can present their research and possible solutions in May as part of a Teach for Democracy Conference.

The biggest issue my students face is inequitable access to technology on campus because LAUSD no longer provides students with individual devices. As a result their Community Action Project will have to be started in paper and physical copies. In order to help students keep track of their work as they conduct research, interview community members, and create community partnerships- they will need folders and flash drives.

As their educator I understand that I will have to support students with printed copies of research so that they can annotate and analyze in small groups using my printer. Please help me fund my project so that I can get them started on this project and present in May!
