Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need a turn table, DJ controller and mixer as well as a DJ starter handbook/DVD so they can learn about how the Hip Hop sound is produced. I'm teaching an ELA elective but using the history of Hip Hop as a reading and writing tool. Students are interested in learning the art of DJing as they are introduced to the beats of early Hip Hop.

Hands-on experiences push students to be engaged and motivated to attend class and learn.

As they learned about the four pillars of Hip Hop, many of my students showed an interest in how beats originated from turntables and have even asked me to bring them in. Let's bring the joy of music making into an ELA elective course and bring back hands-on motivation for our future music makers.
