My Students

My ever busy scholars are always on the edge of their seats when it comes to their learning. We're all always ready and willing to test the waters that will improve the knowledge that leads to college.

My scholars are a great bunch of learners.

There's a diversity of learning, cultures, but most important personalities. There is never a dull day in our classroom. I teach at a Title 1 school with the majority of our students are on free and reduced lunch. Many of my students live in high poverty and do not have access to additional educational activities outside of school. It is my focus to ensure that my students have access to many different books throughout the day because this is the only exposure they will get until the next school day. It would be very helpful to have more materials that could be used daily during our D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) literacy block.

My Project

My students are very vocal about the lack of exciting books in our class library. It is difficult for me to motivate them to read independently. My students are required to read a minimum of 20 minutes each day in class, and 40 minutes every night for homework. New books would really help them to achieve this goal. I'm certain that the Toon into Comics Genre Study Complete Set; aligned with the Common Core State Standards; will encourage my awesome scholars not only to read but... to share what they've read with others through rich and productive discussions that promotes critical thinking and social engagement.

Reading can change their lives. It is so important in children's development and an encouragement to move on to...college to build more knowledge.
