This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of kids who happen to receive Special Education Services. I want to create a place for them to learn, grow, and feel comfortable.
Teaching in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with multiple challenges.
The school is located in the midst of a large city and my students all come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them a variety of experiences.
Each of my students spends about an hour a day in the resource room. They receive math, reading, and social interventions. They are a great group of kids!
My Project
These books will give my students something they can, and will want to read. I would like to incorporate literature circles in my small group time with my Special Education students.
Hi/lo books will allow me to provide an authentic literature experience without overwhelming them with loads of unfamiliar words.
My hope is that my students will grow as readers and embrace a love for reading.
The books included in this list have a diverse group of characters which will allow all of my students to see themselves in what they are reading. I would like this to be a start of an ever growing library for my students.
