This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our popular literature class, students get to read books that are culturally relevant to them. These reading opportunities cultivate rich discussion and a deeper understanding of current state of things and recent events in our country and the world. We will use the books Concrete Rose and The Poet X, both teen centered and in urban settings, to discuss important topics in this generation: justice for all and finding one's purpose and place in this world. Relatable stories such as the ones in these books are powerful catalysis for change and healing.
