Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach freshman - junior students, and each student brings so many different interests, experiences, and perspectives to our classroom. My students have built such a great and growing community in our classroom that they are very comfortable collaborating and learning from each other and I enjoy getting to know them more each day.

The greatest quality my students have that constantly amazes me is their determination.

When my students are struggling to understand material, they ask many questions, seek extra help, and do as much as possible to understand the material. Each student has so many outside things happening in their lives that seeing their strong determination inspires me so much. They inspire, motivate, and teach me so many things every day.

My Project

My students LOVE when I change the decor in the classroom based on the season. It helps them feel more at home and the classroom becomes less "stiff" and plain, and brings more life into the walls. Many of my students' families also decorate their homes with the seasons/holidays, so it brings them a sense of comfort and belonging. When my students feel comfortable in our classroom, it makes them more willing to form relationships with the people around them, be part of our community, and engage more. You would be extremely surprised how changing decor throughout the school year changes the whole atmosphere and demeanor of your students.
