The items listed in our proposal will significantly impact the continued success and growth of the DHS Band Program in Newport News, Virginia. Over the past few years, our program has seen remarkable growth, expanding from a small ensemble of 30 students, with only 7 in the percussion section, to a thriving band of 75 members and counting. Our percussion section has seen a particular surge in size, now boasting a 20-member drumline.
Within our percussion section, we march a full battery drumline, which includes marching bass drums, tenor drums (quints), cymbals, and snare drums.
To accommodate our growing number of students, we are seeking to add a 14" bass drum to our current lineup, as additional drums are necessary to support our expanding section.
In addition, we are looking to invest in new snare drum harnesses. The current harnesses we are using do not effectively meet the needs of our students. The marching snare drum harness is crucial in ensuring that students can properly hold and carry the drum, with the harness designed to fit each student individually while securely attaching to the drum.
