Help me give my students higher quality literacy centers this year! As a first-year teacher last year, most of my centers had paper copies. I hope use the laminator to make reuseable, durable games and activities this year!
I hope to make more durable and reusable centers for my students this school year. I found some great Science of Reading aligned, interactive games and activities last year for vocabulary, phonics, and decoding practice and games.
My students last year made great gains in their reading test scores which I proudly attribute to my adding in of more explicit phonics skill practice to our curriculum through my centers time.
Unfortunately, most stations were paper copies that got ripped or needed to be written on.
By laminating these materials, students can use the dry erase markers to use a game again and again (hence the Clorox wipes for not only erasing but killing germs for shared materials.) As an added bonus, more durable materials can be used year after year saving me prep time in the future!
For the upcoming school year, the reading interventionalist was concerned about my incoming (2024-2025) class's reading test scores from their kindergarten year (more concerned than any other grade in our elementary school.) So, this is an area I'd really like to focus on this school year to give my students small-group support and catch them up on their foundational reading skills by again aligning my literacy teaching and small group intervention to the Science of Reading.
