Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach high needs urban bilingual high school students in a 11th Grade intermediate English/ESL classroom. These college bound students need basic supplies to make the school year productive!

With recent budget cuts in our school, our students are lacking much of their needed basic school and classroom supplies.

Everyday we start off class with a "Do Now" exercise which is to be copied and written into student journals. Because we are a high need/poverty school, requesting students to bring even something as inexpensive as a notebook could be impractical as they face deep economic hardships at home. Therefore, your donation would relieve this burden, and students would be given the gift of a new journal on their first day of class. Additionally, our class needs basic materials such as markers and construction paper which students use on a very regular basis for creating projects, bulletin boards, and assignments. We readily and often incorporate art in our English classes, so by having these essential supplies, students will be able to deeply interact with the content of their class.

Your donation, great or small, will be greatly changing the dynamics of our classroom. To be gifted with a new journal (which is a requirement in my class) will ensure that all of my students come to class with all of their materials, thus establishing a ready and prepared learning environment. Please help my students gain the supplies they need to have a productive year in English class. These supplies will play a crucial role in their learning while they acquire English, study literature, and prepare for college and beyond. Thank you so much!
