My Students

I have a group of energetic and eager first grade students! A typical day in our classroom consists mostly of differentiated work. This accesses each student's entry point and allows them to soar into learning. I want my students to exceed standards while experiencing the fun and a love of reading.

I have 24 amazing and unique individuals in my classroom this year.

I am lucky enough to call them my students. We are a Title 1, low income school. Students come from diverse backgrounds where English is not often the main language spoken at home. We need all of the help we can get to watch our students grow, succeed and exceed all of the expectations that we place upon them. I hope to use these books to immerse my students into a world of reading. I want them to increase their stamina during independent reading time and to improve their reading skills. I hope to continue to foster my students' love of reading.

My Project

Our classrooms are based around a Balanced Literacy Approach. We incorporate reading skills into almost everything we do! In order to keep students' interest in reading have many high interest shared and guided reading books. We also allow students choice. Students are able to choose books on their reading level and fun books to place in their book baggies. These book baggies are used to take home to use with their reading logs and also during independent reading time. Students will be able to further their comprehension and improve their independent reading stamina with these books. Additionally, my students LOVE read alouds. I would love to use these books for pure enjoyment!

These donations will definitely improve reading in my classroom.

Students will have more fun and exciting books to read. They will be able to reinforce skills learned from both shared and guided reading with these books. The best part about getting these books will be the excitement on my students' faces when they see them!
