Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade class is made up of 23 highly motivated students that are excited to learn and grow. I teach in a diverse inner city school where many students are either immigrants themselves or the child of immigrants.

They are passionate and proud of our school community and have big dreams and goals for themselves.

From the first day school, a number of them have expressed their love for science, math, and reading. They are curious about the world and want to make a positive impact.

My Project

These books will help encourage my students' love of reading. We have an independent reading block included in our daily schedule and it is a time where students get to read for pleasure. They love being able to book shop in our classroom library and pick out different books each week.

I would love to be able to provide them with more books of their choosing.

Not only are these books of high interest but some even have characters that my students personally identify with. I am so encouraged by their excitement when it comes to picking out new books to read and want to keep that excitement alive in them. With these brand new books, my students will be able to continue developing as readers and grow in their curiosity of the world.

My students treat our classroom books with love and care. They are so grateful for any opportunities they get to read new books. This project will help enrich their experiences of written texts. Please help me to support their love of and growth in reading!
