My Students

Reading is incredibly important for students to build vocabulary, study plot, and practice comprehension. Finding the right book isn't always easy, especially with a diverse group of students who want to read something recent and relevant to their lives.

My students are a culturally diverse group of ninth and tenth graders living in a high poverty area.

About half of my students are special education students, and many are struggling readers. Despite any challenges they face, they are optimistic about their futures and work hard to accomplish their goals. With the right resources, all students are excited to succeed.

My Project

My classroom library hasn't been updated in a few years. Many of the books I can offer my students are no longer relevant or engaging them. I believe my students deserve access to high interest, relevant books. When students have new, popular books available to them, they are more likely to read and enjoy what they are reading.

A strong classroom library is incredibly important to encourage reading as a hobby.

Reading helps students gain valuable skills needed to navigate high school. It also contributes to improved comprehension and increased vocabulary. Additionally, I hope to help my students become life long readers.
