My Students

I am blessed to teach an incredible group of kids each year! These kids continually amaze me, year to year, despite the learning challenges they face daily. They are smart, caring, and hardworking. When I tell you they are incredible, that is an understatement. The majority of my sweet students struggle to learn but refuse to give up. Our school is located in a low-income area, where all of the students qualify for free meals.

My students will now start another school year with distance learning.

This is not an easy pill to swallow considering their diverse learning obstacles. My hope is to still be able to build a family with my students even though they are not physically with me. They know that in our class, they will learn even though it may look less traditional than most would imagine. I consider my students' family, and we will continue to work diligently together to maintain this feeling in my classroom.

My Project

In preparation to go back into the actual classroom in the next month, I'm requesting materials to help get us through until the end of the school year and beyond. Coming from a low-income area that has been hit particularly hard by COVID, I want to do all I can to ensure an easy transition for my students from online back to in-person learning. It is my hope to provide my students with the basic supplies, such as notebooks and Post-it Notes.

They will need to prepare notes, color code using highlighters any major ideas and thoughts, and to We will use the plastic, pocket writes on folders for both science investigations and math problem-solving.

My students are often more engaged when they can quickly display their answers and then erase and start a new problem. I am also requesting notebooks, pens, highlighters, pencil bags, and Post-it’s to help with our in-class learning and note-taking. These materials will also be used to organize and prepare for the upcoming state tests. We will use the Paragraph Writing Books to help us continue to learn how to plan, write, and edit our writing pieces. It’s very difficult to prepare without proper materials and being an off time of year to return to school, most stores are not well-stocked on the supplies my students use daily.

Being in a low-income area, also added personal masks and cleaning supplies to help keep the students safer and everything sanitized. A few snacks have been added for the students who are hungry and may be lacking adequate food at home. It is my hope that a cheery classroom stocked with new supplies and books will help make this adjustment easier for my students.
