My Students

Do you remember how you learned about prefixes or suffixes? Probably not! Imagine if you were able to practice what the teacher taught you by using a listening center!

My second grade students range in levels for reading, from below grade level to above!

In order to engage my students during their independent reading time, I offer literacy centers. One of those offered is a listening center. However, I feel this center can go beyond just listening to great books and building fluency!

My Project

I remember learning my grammar skills not from my teacher, but from watching "Schoolhouse Rock" on TV. Why? Because the tunes were catchy and it was something I saw and listened to, not just sat in class and heard the teacher say and write on the board. I would like to take my literacy centers in that direction, starting with the listening center. While listening to books is a great way to build fluency and word recognition skills, imagine using the listening center for more! Imagine practicing your language skills, such as prefixes, suffixes, synonyms, antonyms, and more, by completing activities and listening to directions and doing examples through a CD!

Students learn by so many different styles these days.

This project can tap most of those styles - kinesthetic (hands on), auditory, visual - just through one literacy center! Won't you please help us out by donating today?
