Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are seeking your support for an exciting project in our school that aims to enhance our students' understanding of fitness and weather using Apple watches.

With the Apple watches, we will be able to choose 8 students each week to wear the watches all day and chart their steps, heart rate, and overall movement using chart paper.

We will gather the data to work on changing their exercise habits, make healthy food choices, and promote a positive overall thinking of themselves. Our goal is that this leads to a happier feeling of oneself, a healthier lifestyle, positive self-esteem, and a new motivation for their education. We will use the AccuWeather and WeatherBug app to track the weather. Students will explore some factors (temperature and precipitation) of daily weather in order to develop an understanding of how short-term weather can be used to describe seasonal weather. The weather tracking will be interesting because lately, we have been having very unpredictable weather in NYC.

With the funding of this project, not only will our students be able to access new technology, but they will also be able to use it in a meaningful way within the classroom in applications for health experiments and weather tracking.
