My Students
My sophomore US History students are geeked about pushing their historical knowledge towards success in Advanced Placement US History.
My students are a group of developing readers from a small sub-rural high school in Michigan.
They want to explore history in a truly authentic way, and with their new-found love of reading, they understand that this kind of exploration is possible through BOOKS!
My Project
My students need engaging, history texts. Far too often, history teachers rely on just the textbook, and this does little to excite reluctant readers. These texts will help push my students beyond the traditional course textbook and into the authentic material of real historians. Most of my students are avid history fans looking to reach for AP US History in their senior year.
Some of the titles being requested are contemporary war biographies while others reflect the stories of WWII and the Cold War. All of them are on my students Dying-To-Read-List!
As high poverty students, my students know that Advanced Placement classes can help them reach what could be a distant and expensive step towards university.
These books can help narrow the distance by scaffolding students towards success.
