Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an inclusive group of both general education students and special education students who have a range of needs and learning styles. My students are eager second grade learners who love school! Being in and out of school this past year has really taken a toll on them, and the thought of continuing attending school in a blended/hybrid model this year is really impacting them socially and emotionally.

These amazing students are visual learners, who learn best when they can connect to and relate to exciting lessons, and are motivated by hands-on experiences and tasks that help them develop their creativity and critical thinking skills.

My Project

This year, due to COVID, my students do not have access to our weekly art class, and they are craving ways to expand their creativity. With this project, I am hoping to encourage my students to tap into their artistic side by creating clay magnets with cookie cutters, painted pinch pot bowls, and other clay creations.

While I am not an art teacher, I want my students to better engage their kinesthetic and creative intelligences for a more immersive learning experience.

Clay projects are the perfect way for me to engage my students and give them access to art during our regular school day. In addition to the air dry clay, paintbrushes, trays, paint and magnets, I am also hoping to obtain a new reading series for my higher level readers.
