My Students

Take a moment to think about your kindergarten experience. Did you just get a feeling of nostalgia, too? Kindergarten was an amazing and fun time that taught you the foundations of reading, writing, and math. My students are getting that same experience, but we are in need of materials that will help alleviate concerns that my homeless students face on a daily basis.

The children I teach are energetic, wonderful, hardworking students.

Some of them come from situations that no one should ever experience. They impress me everyday with their awesome attitudes, and desire to learn. We are a full day kindergarten class at a Title I school. Most of our students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. The student population is 33% Caucasian, 26% Hispanic, 12% Asian, 11% African American, and 28% other.

My Project

My number one goal in life is to make sure that no child goes hungry, and also to make sure they get the best education in the land!

Through Donors Choose and other generous people, I am able to support these students and even their family by offering food, supplies, and even a cup a coffee for a stressed out guardian!

Many of my students come to school in the same clothes they wore the day before. I want to be able to provide my students in need with fresh socks, and some nourishment so they can be clean and comfortable in school, and be able to focus on the important things we are learning.

I am requesting materials that will be used to support our homeless population at our school. I am specifically requesting protein rich, and shelf stable food items that will be given to our students that do not have access to any type of nourishment. Things like fruit leather, beef jerky sticks, and whole grain crackers will provide my less fortunate students with protein, and whole grains. This will help them focus more on their work, and less on their hungry bellies. I am also requesting socks, toothbrushes, tooth paste, and laundry detergent. Giving our homeless youth access to a clean pair of socks, and a toothbrush, can completely transform their day. My overall goal is to give each student the best education regardless of their background. Alleviating the everyday worries my homeless students face will give them a chance to focus more on their academics, and worry less about where their next meal is coming from, and how are they going to clean themselves.
