Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goals are promote improved reading and learning skills for students with disabilities and to develop library resources to provide enriching and rewarding opportunities to encourage reading time.

My students are children who want to learn and read at the same or similar grade levels as their classmates.

When they come to my class, many are motivated with different kinesthetic aids to concentrate and make their reading more fun. For example, they can sit in the bouncy balls by the time they read and use a fidget if they need it. For this reason, the materials I request will help students improve their reading through kinesthetic assistance.

I like my students to feel that they have options to overcome their academic difficulties. With the help of different materials, they can better cope with each academic problem that is presented to them.

An anecdote that made me happy was that a family father refused to allow his son to be given an IEP for fear of being labeled by his classmates. The father arrived at the end of the year and thanked me for helping his child improve his reading and improve the student's self-esteem. The father told me that his son always said to him that he did not go to the resource class but to the reading and writing class.
