My Project

Although the COVID-19 Pandemic is largely behind us, the effects of the pandemic are still visible in classrooms across the country. This is my 16th year teaching middle school and I can clearly see how the disruption of the last few years has impacted many students academically as well as socially and emotionally.

The following materials will help support my students in several ways.

Having pencils and a new sharpener will ensure I can always provide students with the basic instruments needed for learning every day. Fruit snacks and mints will allow me to provide students a little boost of energy if they choose to stay in to work on improving their academics, or during the rigorous testing that is required by the state. This year in particular, many students struggle with focusing in the classroom and flexible seating options and fidget toys will help them focus as they continue to learn.

Lastly, copies of the graphic novel "We Hereby Refuse" will help me support my class of honors-level learners, a population that is often neglected in the classroom. At first glance, they do not appear to have the greatest need but supporting their academic and social-emotional needs is also very important.
