My Project

When my PreK and Kindergarten students come into the library, they are so excited to learn about new things! I will use these magazines during library time to supplement library lessons as well as teach the students about letters, colors, shapes, print awareness, and science. By pairing these magazines with a book or 2, I am showing them different forms of print, getting them excited about great topics, and building their background knowledge in science and social studies. As we discuss what we are learning, students are building language skills. Because these magazines are in full color, students are excited to examine the photographs and explore all of their text features. The back of the magazines always have an activity to further their learning and build skills such as reading graphs, diagrams, maps, and labeling pictures.

Sending home these magazines will enable students to bring their learning home and share it with their loved ones.

My hope is that my students use the magazine to "teach" someone at home about what they learned at school. I want each student to know they have a lot to share and give them a tool to help them. This is so important to build their confidence as learners. Whether they are sharing the pictures, the letters, the words, or the concepts, they are actively engaging someone at home and that is so important to their language development. Please help me share my love of learning with my students!
