My Project

Connecting with students and families is an important part of our job in counseling and social work. A difficulty we often have is when we are working with a student and family who speaks a different language. The opportunity to get support and ask questions through their own language is so impactful and helps build relationships. Unfortunately, the tools we are provided are not sufficient enough and provide a very distant connection, even when sitting in the same room. We are wanting to change this.

Students who are able to express how they are feeling and difficulties they are having have a higher chance of being successful both academically and socially.

We want help in getting translator devices that will support in making this an option for students, especially during one-on-one counseling support.

We also have no budget for office supplies...literally $0. This seems like an exaggeration but it is not. We are often buying paper and tape and many other things from our own pockets. To provide language support to students and also be able to continue providing printed materials for students and families, we help our community feel connected and informed.
