Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In Pre-K, our day is spent learning through play. One of our centers is the listening center. It is my goal that the children will learn how to follow along as a story is read, follow directions, and begin to develop a love for reading.

My Pre-K class consists of children ranging from 3-5 years old.

They are active, curious children, eager to learn and explore. Due to a lack of funding, we are unable to receive some materials that will engage the children as they learn and grow. My school has a large ESL population. Exposing the children to books, nursery rhymes, and songs on CD, in English, can help build their vocabulary, beginning print concepts, and help them develop an early love for reading and books.

My Project

My students will use these materials in the listening center. They will choose a book and its corresponding CD, and listen to/follow along as it is played on their portable CD player. A child can also choose to read the same book as a friend and take turns turning the pages and attempting to read along as the story is played.

Donating to my project will change my students lives.

The children will have the opportunity to be exposed to different kinds of books. They will develop skills such as taking turns, following the story as it is being read, and will develop beginning print concepts. All of the above skills are skills that will be built upon in future grades. Donating to my projects will instill a love for learning, a love for books, and a love for reading in the minds of my young students.
