My Students

I am a school social worker in an urban school district. I service high school students who have Individual Education Plans and who have emotional disabilities. My students mainly come from poverty stricken homes and some are in foster care.

My students work very hard to stay engaged in school despite outside stressors.

We have worked on sustaining and maintaining healthy relationships. For most of my students school is a safe haven as their home environment is very chaotic. The staff and I want to make the students experiencing as happy, safe and fulfilling as possible.

My Project

My students come from an urban area in MA. Many of them are in group homes, foster homes or single parent homes. The majority of my students are growing high school boys who are always hungry. Although they get free breakfast and lunch it does not fill them. We need juice and snack and some fidget toys. The program uses these snacks as an incentive throughout the day to keep them engaged and on task.

Our program is also a therapeutic program and our children are in need of fidget toys to keep them focused and on task.

I am requesting stress balls and other therapeutic toys so that students can use them through out the day when they are feeling stressed or anxious.

We appreciate any help that we can get in our school. Our budget is depleted and our teachers spend a lot of their own money on school supplies.
