Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year's group of students needs a lot of support socially and emotionally. They are not motivated by what typically motivates a group of twenty second-graders.

I am hoping this class store reward system is thriling and motivates students stuck in undesired behaviors to try to get out of bad habits in order to create some little fun!

The miniature items will be available to purchase/borrow for individual student habitats each Friday morning. The students will be earning pom poms as money throughout the week. Items can be traded-in for a fee. Items will be priced in $5 increments to help with counting by 5's on a clock. This system could also encourage little entrepreneurs to discover the power of saving money when larger items are available to purchase.

Finally, experimenting with this system will push my boundaries as their teacher. We have had a lot of small theft this school year. I have been tempted to stop bringing lovely things into the classroom. But, I think, setting clear expectations, showing trust in them to have such treasures, and allowing them to try again could really bring about a change in them.
