Helpful Headphones for All Abilities

Help me give my students high quality headphones to differentiate instruction and provide multiple modalities for learning.

My Project

I teach a very diverse population; my English classes include students of all abilities, from IEPs to 504s, to English Language Learning students to those identified as Gifted & Talented. Differentiating often involves station work, at which individual students can work at their own pace. Additionally, I offer the audio version of all our class novels, giving students the option to follow along in the text with that guidance. This grant would be used to purchase a class set of high-quality headphones for my students. These would facilitate station work for small groups to independently complete work at their own pace. Additionally, headphones allow students to access audiobook links to follow along in each of our class novels: "Inside Out & Back Again," "To Kill A Mockingbird," and "Unbroken."

Providing these "extras" in a classroom is what makes students feel that their work is important, and provides a sense of academic agency.

These high-quality headphones are so helpful in differentiating instruction and communicating a sense that each child's abilities and overall education is truly valued.

While some students are able to provide their own wired headphones for class, many students at my school do not have the means to do so. A class set also levels the playing field for students of a lower socioeconomic status.
