Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 57.5% Hispanic/Latino, 36.7% White, 3% African American and they love to dance and make movements up to create dances from their culture or upbringing. We like to teach each other different dances that we do at birthday parties, barn dances, quincineras, and create new movements. The students take their cultures very serious and try to explain the meanings of each dance to each other.

The students like to use dance time as a way to show their talents and get others involved.

They can dance and don't even realize they are getting lots of cardio exercise.

My Project

Pedometers will be worn by the students during class activities such as dance, basketball, soccer, jump rope, etc. then recorded in a journal so that the students can see the difference each activity makes in the beating of their heart.

Students will graph resting heart beat and heart beat after activity to find which activities help their heart beat the best.

Hopefully this will help them decide activities to become more involved in.

Students will hopefully come away with a better understanding of which activities will be good for them to keep their heart healthy for not only over all health, but also for endurance, strength, and lung capacity.
