Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

During our Literacy Stations time, my students desperately need activities that can hold their attention, as well as meet their academic needs. Our fluency and comprehension are in desperate need of help!

We are in south Texas at a public elementary school of about 850 students PK-5.

We are located in a coastal town, which has chemical plants and fishing industries. We have many migrant families due to lots of agriculture in our area. Over 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, so many of them have had no exposure to a variety of life experiences, which would increase their knowledge. Our community includes a diverse group of cultures. We have Burmese refugee children, other Asian children whose parents work at the plants, African American, Hispanic and white students. The students are very eager to learn and, for the most part, the parents want what is best for their child, no matter what. They may have limited income but they still try to help do whatever they can to for their children.

My Project

The writing activity pockets have captivating and thought-provoking ideas for my students to express themselves through their writing. Our fluency definitely needs a boost and the classroom fluency station, the readers' theater scripts and the fluency and comprehension partner scripts would all help with this problem. As the students engage with these scripts and activities, their comprehension and fluency would improve without them even realizing it! The interactive games library would provide a wealth of opportunity for whole group as well as small group instruction in comprehension and fluency.

I truly believe the addition of these educational materials to our classroom could make a huge difference in my students' lives.

I have several struggling students this year and they need hands-on and interactive materials to enhance their learning. Please help me help my students be successful!
