This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful and exciting group of four and five-year-old boys and girls, in an ICT (integrated collaborative teaching) classroom. This means that 40% of my students are in special education, and the rest are in general education.
We are a Title I school and work hard to ensure that everyone learns and succeeds.
I want them to have everything they need and deserve to have to make their school year exciting and fun, as well as productive and successful throughout the entire year.
My Project
Now that it is getting colder outside, my students need the necessities like winter coats, hoodies and hats, gloves and scarves to ensure that they can stay warm throughout the next few months. Many families don't have the money for new coats and sweaters. They use hand-me-downs that have broken zippers or holes. Sometimes, the coats are stained beyond just needing to be washed.
Can you imagine having to wake up on a cold winter morning and not having a coat, sweater or other clothing to keep you warm as you walk to school?
Many students in my school have to do just that. They walk to school as fast as they can as their toes and fingers are freezing. They can barely talk because their mouths become so cold it's hard to move it. They know that they have to keep walking so that they can get to the warmth of our school building.
Just making me think about that makes me want to cry because some of my students cry and beg NOT to have to go to school, not because they don't want to but because they can't stand the COLD! Can you imagine that? Not wanting to go to school because you don't have a coat to keep you warm as you walk to school. No child should have that problem. Please help!
