This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high needs community in New York where over 90% of the students are eligible for free lunch. The majority of my students come from foreign countries and are English Language Learners. I am teaching STEM to students from K-5 who are all eager students. At this time my classes are low on materials that can be used in STEM education, and as the budget gets cut, it is getting harder to get supplies and resources for my classes.

My Project

With my project, I am looking to convert my classes from a whole class/small group model into a station based learning environment. I have seen many successful schools where the classes have multiple stations where students are working on the same concepts but using different materials.

My goal is to have students coding on Scratch, then moving on to coding actual objects like a Makey Makey or a Sphero.

I also want to have low tech/offline stations such as Code Masters where students work on coding solutions without using actual technology. I also have asked for some literature to help guide us and storage cases.
