Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are characters! They are funny, witty and diverse. They love to have heated discussions and debates about the books we are reading in English class. They are genuinely excited to interact with one another and can often be overheard in vigorous conversations about books.

My school is in the community of Opa-Locka and the student population comes from all over the Miami area.

Students at my school have family backgrounds from Haiti, the Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Africa and the US.

My Project

As struggling mathematicians, it is imperative that my students be able to form numbers and mathematical representations concretely. These math manipulatives will help them visualize math in a new way. We will use them daily to model new concepts when going over place value, multiplying and diving decimals as well as solving multiplication problems.

With your help, math will no longer be confusing and jarring numbers, but crystal clear concepts that students can represent on paper.

The use of these math aids will boost my students confidence and propel to mathematical greatness. Also, the bins in this project will be used to keep manipulatives organized, clean and sanitized for future students!

Part of my teaching philosophy is also to have fun while learning! The math games in this project will help my students do just that. Make math fun and enjoyable.
