My students are a wonderful group of six students with autism between the ages of 5-7. My students are all very sweet and eager to learn! The majority of my students come from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
The students in my class are amazing!
My students learn best through a variety of modalities - visual, tactile, kinesthetic, and auditory. They show their enthusiasm by actively engaging in activities, as well as through smiling and laughing with enjoyment. My students are learning many functional life skills. The majority of my students are non-verbal. We work hard on facilitating communication skills through modeling, as well as through the use of picture symbols and communication devices. In addition, my students strive to improve their academic skills. They love reading, math, science, social studies, social/emotional learning, art, health, music, and movement. Having a well-rounded education is so important!

My Project
Students with Autism often have difficulty with changes in routine or in their environment. Our students have been through quite a lot of changes this past school year being in the building at times and remote at times due to the pandemic. This has caused some of our students to become anxious and overwhelmed.
Compression vests can have a calming, grounding effect on students with Autism.
Compression vests can help students with Autism feel comfort and security without feeling overloaded. The compression vests will help my students to process sensory information, feel calm, and improve their focus, attention, and learning. These compression vests would truly benefit our students and improve their social/emotional health!
