Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Last year we opened Polish Bilingual Transitional Program in our school. The students learn American curriculum using Polish language every other day. My students came from varieties of countries and for most of them Polish is a new language. Since the program is a relatively new in my school, we don’t have Polish classroom library yet. Most of the students came from low income immigrant families and are not able to provide for needed materials. Having Polish books, games, and bilingual materials would help my students to succeed learning in bilingual program.

My Project

Learning in one language isn’t easy, but learning in two languages might be challenging for some students. To make learning enjoyable, I will use lots of hands on materials and games. Happy students learn better and retain the knowledge for a long time. Students will use the magnetic leaders to learn the alphabet. They also will use them to make words in both languages. I will create magnetic writing center in my classroom. It will make their learning more playful and enjoyable. Additionally, students will practice their reading daily having an interactive word wall created using the magnetic sentence strips.
