My Students

I want my students to BELIEVE in THEMSELVES more than I believe in them! Therefore it's my responsibility to help students THRIVE to be the best readers they can be! A tablet can help us!

My students come from a high-risk, low social economic area of California.

Many come from single parent households, with a high percentage living below the poverty line. They live with daily violence in a community that visually seems depressing. My students want to learn and thrive but have very limited resources outside of the school. Due to drastic budget cuts at my school site, I haven't had a working computer for my students in over 3 years with no plans to receive any new or even refurbished ones.

My Project

A Toshiba Thrive tablet will give my scholars an opportunity to foster the love of reading while giving them the opportunity to become tech savvy, a needed skill for every student from the inner-city to the suburb. Each of my scholars will be able to practice literacy activities by accessing e-books or various academic websites. This practice will definitely improve not only their reading ability but other academic areas as well. There are hundreds of websites and programs my students will be able to access with a tablet in their hands. I know a tablet will heighten their sense of excitement for education. The road to college begins here and now.

My students have NEVER worked on a computer at school. I want to give my students an opportunity that many students in other communities take advantage of everyday. Living in 2012, it is crucial for my students to be equipped with the tools needed to make learning accessible. We want to THRIVE too!!!!!!
