This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I am writing to you from a place of urgent and pressing need. I teach a morning program four days a week for children who are far, far behind in learning phonemic awareness and spelling patterns. There are 10 children in my program, who are all enrolled in 3rd grade, but age-wise should be as advanced as 5th grade. As delayed as their skills may be, they also share a strong desire to develop their abilities and overcome what cripples their writing. Morning program is mandatory for students identified as struggling in key academic areas like reading, phonics and math, but oftentimes in past years I've had kids who failed to show up or refused to put forth much effort. This year, my situation is far different. My kids greet me bright-eyed and prepared every morning, and immediately set to work as soon as they come through the door. Here's the unfortunate part: I don't have curriculum materials to fully support their development. I cobble together materials from various sources, but progress is slowed by not being able to follow a thoughtfully-written, careful curriculum. What wondrous progress we could make if we had quality phonics workbooks like the ones I have requested below! Time is of the essence, and we would be so very thrilled if you could meet our urgent need! 3rd grade is so important as a year to not lose too much momentum, and these kids are already at a big disadvantage. Please, please help! Thank you!
