This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently go from class to class rolling a big cart brimming with yoga mats and a special lamp to set the mood for yoga and mindfulness lessons in my school. I'm in the process of transforming a supply closet into a mini yoga and mindfulness studio for kids to visit and enjoy. Your help is needed!

I teach in a school where teachers really work hard to meet the needs of all students.

As the literacy coach and reading specialist, I work in many different settings in my school. I teach mindfulness and yoga in a self-contained 12:1:1 special education classroom this year and cycle through lessons in various classrooms with general education students as well as English language learners. Many of my students struggle to practice self control and have difficulties focusing and maintaining attention. They are all eager to learn and participate. They would melt your heart with their smiles, smart ideas and brilliant minds but they need help with regulating their emotions, dealing with frustration, and maintaining focus in the classroom. We are working in a tight space. There are lots of desks in our way! With your help, I would love to create a special yoga and mindfulness studio where students can come to visit and practice mindfully moving in a safe environment.

My Project

I have requested yoga mats, a bowl and chime, and books that will help my students to manage stress, become happier, kinder, and focused in class. I've included a book for my own professional development as well as markers and chart paper. Creating a special mini yoga and mindfulness studio will give the students a space to practice yoga, mindful movements, mindful listening and so much more. Inviting children who have such a difficult time quieting their bodies and minds for long periods of time at their desks, to practice yoga moves, while in a comfortable, safe space of their own, will be empowering and inspiring! Students will be able to use the meditation bowl to invite the bell to sing as they practice mindful listening. These requested resources are priceless to us! So, do you have it in your heart to lend us a hand on this project? Your support will really make a difference! As the students would say in their heartfulness lessons- may you be healthy, peaceful and happy!
