Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember performing in school performances as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for and practicing every week until the day of the performance. Then finally the performance day comes along and you are full of pride to perform in front of your friends, family, and classmates. My students share that excitement and joy of waiting for and then finally performing on stage. Our school is a Title I school, meaning at least 40% of the families in our school are considered low income. My students are expressive through their dance, speeches, and collaborative work. Students at my school are compassionate and creative. They are willing to learn about other cultures other than their own and represent them in school performances. As a multicultural school, performances like these are so important to my students and are truly valued. I am the counselor at a K-5 elementary school in an impoverished urban area. My time working with students during lunch is valuable. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to learn about these other cultures in creative ways.

My Project

The supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a job to do. If my project is funded the materials will be used to support my students dancing and acting of different eras of their culture. We are trying to represent all the beautiful and diverse cultures that are seen in our school hallways and classrooms. We just need your help in getting it through our door! Schools today are filled with a variety of cultures and every culture has such unique aspects! Unfortunately with all the academic responsibilities we sometimes lose the opportunity to showcase these amazing and diverse cultures. With these supplies, students will be able to put together a performance to showcase these cultures.
