Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a school librarian and I strive to get my students to read everyday! We haven't had a librarian in two years and I have jumped on board to get my students reading more and enjoying it! The students are eager to read and checkout books, however, our books have been worn out. We NEED YOUR HELP!

My school is in a low income area where 99% of the school receives free or reduced-price lunch.

There are 900 plus students from Pre-K to 4th grade with 75% of them being an English as a Second Language Learner. The students come from backgrounds where money is not readily available and they depend on the school for survival. Most of the kids only get a meal when they come to school. I have students who do not have ANY books at home and therefore cannot read independently with their parents. We strive to make sure our students are eager and ready to read and learn daily!

My Project

I will have the students reading these items to earn points for the Accelerated Reader program. We have a wall of points and everyone wants their name on it! If we have the books that they enjoy, then they will be eager to take the quizzes. Also, my students will also be able to use the Dinosaur books to do research projects on dinosaurs. My 4th graders can use the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants books to improve fluency and reading comprehension for their state test. All in all, every child needs a good book and this project is our key in getting there!

This project will help with our collection and offer more titles for the students to choose from.

I know the students will be elated to have theses fresh brand new titles in the library to choose from.
