Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My 4th, 5th, and 6th grade ESL students attend a high needs school in Massachusetts. All of my students are newcomers to the United States and some have interrupted learning.
My highly motivated scholars have inquisitive minds and a thirst for learning.
As Newcomers, my students need extra supports such as bilingual texts, picture cues, and small group support to meet their more diverse needs as learners. Our classroom is designed to create an intense amount of targeted differentiation to help our students acclimate to a new country and language.
My Project
I will pass these winter coats and the pair of boots on to students in various classes and grades throughout my school.
This project will impact students with the greatest needs within my school.
Massachusetts winters reach severe temperatures and many of the students in our school do not own adequately warm winter jackets. Not having proper winter attire is a major safety concern and academic concern for many families. If students are not able to dress properly for frigid temperatures, they are less likely to attend school and their grades suffer. In addition, many students within my school come from warmer climates where thick winter jackets were never a consideration. I will use this project as an opportunity to teach students how to dress properly for the winter.
