My students are a wonderfully diverse group of eager first grade learners. My co-teacher and I teach in an integrated collaborative learning setting. Nothing makes us happier than watching them grow as learners each day. Our school is a Title 1 school in a large city in New York comprised of a wonderfully diverse group of students who mostly all receive free lunch. Our classroom is an ICT classroom which is comprised of both general and special education learners.
The goal of this project is to create a fun, colorful, organized and welcoming classroom environment, as well as inviting and relaxing for the students.
A main component when students are in first grade is to become more organized and gain a sense of responsibility for taking care of their classroom materials. Providing my students with the same supplies will aide them in becoming more organized and responsible for the classroom supplies as well as being prepared.
Colored notebooks will help the students distinguish the different subjects for each of their notebooks. Materials like pencils, pencil cases, and glue sticks are always running low in our classroom due to daily use. It would make a tremendous difference having these extra supplies on hand.
My Project
The materials requested in this project will be a wonderful asset to the classroom! The colorful notebooks will be ready and waiting to be filled with learning. The different colors of the notebooks will give the children a sense of being organized and responsible for associating the proper notebook with the subject that they are working on. For example: If they are asked to take out their homework notebook, they will all know that their red notebook is for homework.
The primary journals will allow for the students to write creative responses and draw fabulous pictures to match what they wrote!
The colorful pencil cases will provide a secure, organized space for the children to keep their writing and coloring materials as well as their glue sticks.
